Journey to Founding Pura Vida Yoga
The story of Pura Vida Yoga & Integrative Wellness is a heartfelt journey of resilience, passion, and transformation.
Discovering “Pura Vida”:
In 2006, Lynda's daughter embarked on a month-long school project in Costa Rica, during her time at the University of Maryland in College Park. As dedicated parents, Lynda and her family took the opportunity to visit her. It was in Costa Rica that Lynda first encountered the phrase "Pura Vida," which translates to "pure life."
More than just a greeting or farewell, "Pura Vida" encapsulates a philosophy of living life to its fullest with joy, balance, and simplicity. It struck a deep chord with Lynda, planting the seeds of a vision she knew would blossom into something significant one day.
A Life-Changing Diagnosis:
Several years later, life presented Lynda with a formidable challenge. Diagnosed with stage 3c cancer, she made the courageous decision to retire after 23 years as Camp Director of Pine Valley Day Camp founded by her and her husband. Rather than succumb to fear, Lynda saw this as a pivotal moment to embrace change and pursue a path of healing and renewal.
During her treatment, as she navigated the rigors of chemotherapy and radiation, yoga and Ayurveda emerged as Lynda's anchors, realizing these threads had been woven through her life since her early 20’s. Despite the physical and emotional challenges, she began her yoga teacher training. The practice not only provided her with strength and courage but also offered profound insights. Lynda realized that yoga was far more than a series of postures or fitness routines; it was a way of life that nurtured the mind, body, and spirit.
Founding Pura Vida Yoga:
In 2017, with renewed vigor and purpose, Lynda founded Pura Vida Yoga & Integrative Wellness. Initially, she taught classes at various locations around the beltway and seasonal sessions at Pine Valley Club. The response to her unique, heart-centered approach to yoga was overwhelmingly positive.
On October 1, 2022, Lynda fulfilled a long-held dream by opening her own studio. This space became a sanctuary for healing and growth, where she continues to offer personalized yoga instruction and a variety of integrative wellness services.
